Monthly History Article (excerpt from Maple Ridge – A History of Settlement)
Various lodges, social, and church groups were active in Haney (Maple Ridge) by 1912. The Maple Ridge Board of Trade was organized in 1909 and the 1912 Columbian mentions a Rifle Association under Captain G.L. Churchard. Campers, hunters, and fishermen from Vancouver and New Westminster were starting to visit Maple Ridge, with some people establishing country homes here. The Haney branch of the Women’s Institute was organized in1915 with Mrs. A Stevenson as president. This active group worked with the Fall Fair Association, sponsored an early Boy Scout troop and 4-H groups, as well as doing a great deal of charitable and patriotic work.
